What is Loss of Gluteal Elasticity (Laxity)?
- It is the decrease in the elasticity or tone of the gluteal muscles (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus) and the surrounding tissues.
- It is generally seen as a result of aging, weight fluctuations, inactivity, or post-pregnancy.
- Visually, it can manifest as sagging, loss of shape, or flattening in the buttocks.
Causes
- Inactivity / Lack of Exercise: Gluteal muscles lose tone when they are not worked.
- Aging: Muscle mass decreases, and skin elasticity drops.
- Weight Fluctuations: The skin in the buttock area may sag after gaining and losing weight.
- Pregnancy and Childbirth: Gluteal muscles and skin stretch, which can change the overall shape.
Correction Methods
- Exercise:
- Squats, lunges, glute bridges (hip thrusts), and isolated glute movements.
- With regular strengthening, both shape and tone are regained.
- Aesthetic Procedures:
- Fillers / Fat Injection (Brazilian Butt Lift): Increases buttock volume and provides shape.
- Gluteal Implants: Preferred for those who desire a more prominent shape.
- Skin and Muscle Supportive Methods:
- The skin is tightened using methods such as RF (radio frequency), ultrasound, or mesotherapy.
